This beautifully restored home, purchased in February 2020 by Luke Knudson at the age of 17, stands as a testament to his passion for historic preservation. With a remarkable background in antique restoration and sales — having opened an antique store at just 13 years old — as well as his nearly 10 years of service on the board of a local historic house museum, Luke brought valuable expertise as a historic preservationist and craftsman to this project.

Despite the property’s poor condition at the time of purchase, many of the original elements (including the woodwork, windows, built-ins, wood floors, and even some bathroom fixtures and kitchen cabinets) survived, though they were dilapidated and in need of restoration. These features have been carefully restored to reflect the home’s authentic charm, preserving the character and history that make it so unique. Luke hopes you enjoy this lovingly restored glimpse into the past.

““Every time we demolish a historic building, we tear down a piece of our own history”

– Richard D. Wagner

The Arts & Crafts Era

The Arts & Crafts era flourished in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It emphasized craftsmanship, simplicity, and the use of natural materials. This design movement arose as a response to the mass production of the Industrial Revolution as well as a rejection of the highly ornamental stylings of the Victorian period, celebrating hand-made artistry and attention to detail.

The hallmarks of the style include well-crafted woodwork, built-ins, and large windows that invite light and nature into the home. Common motifs include nature-inspired themes such as stylized flowers, trees, and geometric patterns. These homes often feature strong, clean lines and a focus on functional beauty, with every element designed to serve both an aesthetic and practical purpose. The Arts & Crafts movement continues to inspire with its timeless approach to design, emphasizing quality and functional beauty – traits that are proudly preserved in this home..
