Before and after reveal – Sunroom

This room was a slightly later addition to the home and was likely built in the early to mid 1920s. It was intended to add more usable square footage to the home and provided an enjoyable space for relaxation year round. The home was originally built with an open porch (as was typical of bungalows of the period), but many homes since have often had portions or entire porches enclosed.

This home had an additional screened area on the remaining portion of the porch that had been constructed later (which has since been removed). With the sunroom construction being in a sensitive manner to the build quality and style of the home, the owner elected to retain it during the restoration for the additional space and character it provides. Restoring this space consisted of stripping the siding, repairing damaged sections, repainting in era appropriate colors, restoring the interior and exterior windows and storm windows, stripping decades of paint off of and refinishing the floor, sourcing and restoring an antique wooden storm door, fabricating and installing a dentil shelf for the front door, and installing an antique mission porch light.

Another element of this space’s restoration included sourcing period-appropriate furnishings and decor such as the 1930s rattan sofa and chairs,1920s wicker floor lamp and table, and the vintage pottery.
